Fifth Month | Monthly Developments

Till now, you’ve been the one showing all the affection. Now it is time for your baby to show affection for you. Get ready for some heart melt moments.

Height and weight of your baby

  • doneThe normal height for five months old baby is 61.9cm – 69.9cm.
  • doneThe normal weight for five months old baby is 6.1kg – 9.2 kg.

Physical development

  • doneIf you put your baby on your lap, he or she may become able to sit for a moment without assistance. Your baby still needs to be propped up with a pillow.
  • doneYour baby may even be able to hold a bottle or a cup by his or her own.

Cognitive development

  • doneYour baby can now recognize a wide range of objects including smaller objects and moving objects.
  • doneYou may now find your baby is sleeping through the night peacefully. Also, your baby will need one or two naps in the daytime.

Linguistic development

  • doneYou may find your baby watching you carefully when you talk to him or her. Actually, your baby is learning more about your language.
  • doneWhen you call your baby’s name, your baby may turn his or her head towards you.

Social-emotional development

  • doneYour baby may give you hugs and kisses this month. Your baby may hold your arms up when he or she wants you to pick him or her up.
  • doneIf you make funny faces or funny sounds, your baby may laugh at you.

Your doctor may recommend DPT-IPV vaccination for your baby at this month.

Baby care tips

  • doneEstablish a bedtime routine to encourage your baby into a regular nighttime sleep.
  • doneIf your baby is able to roll over, never leave him or her on a bed alone to avoid any accidental roll off.
  • donePlay music. Your baby will clap, smile, and maybe even babble along.
  • donePut all hazardous materials including electrical wires in a locked cabinet.
  • doneDo not leave a steaming cup of tea or iron near your baby.
