First Month | Monthly Developments

Congratulations, you are having a baby in your hand now! In the first month, your baby will go through a range of developments, which are linked to their appearance, senses, motor skills as well as growth.

Height and weight of your baby

  • doneThe normal height for one month old baby is 51.1 cm – 58.4 cm.
  • doneThe normal weight for one month old baby is 3.4 kg - 5.7 kg.

Physical development

  • doneYour baby’s neck muscles are still weak, but you will notice that he or she is able to hold his or her head up briefly when lying on tummy.
  • doneYour baby can bring his or her hands to face.

Cognitive development

  • doneYour baby will begin to turn his or her head towards the source of a sound. 
  • doneClap your hands from across the room and watch your baby’s response.
  • doneYour baby is discovering that his or her hands and legs are attached to him or her.

Linguistic development

  • doneYour baby’s vision is very fuzzy now. He or she will be able to focus a bit better within a month.
  • doneHe or she will blink at bright lights.
  • doneYour baby can also be able to turn his or her head side to side.

Social-emotional development

  • doneYour baby will get attracted to different faces.
  • doneYour baby may start to gurgle when he or she sees you.
  • doneHe or she will curl his or her fingers when you touch your baby’s palm.

Vaccination for your 1 month old baby-

Your doctor may recommend the first dose of Hepatitis B vaccine for your 1 month old baby.

Baby care tips

  • doneFeed your baby frequently.
  • doneDo not try to control the sleeping patterns of your baby. Let your baby sleep as per his or her convenience.
  • doneTalk to your newborn baby and watch all your baby’s movements.
  • doneUse both hands to carry your baby.
  • donePlace your baby crib in a safe location away from the window.
